- Jacob Hornbeck was an enslaver who resided in Sussex County, NJ. He was a physician who grew up in Rochester, Ulster County, NY, and moved to Sussex County, NJ, in the early 19th century. He practiced medicine for many years in the area of Sandyston and Montague and in the surrounding communities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Sussex County records indicate that he held Black people in slavery in the 1810s and 1820s.
