This record refers to a Black woman enslaved by Ann Henderson in Alexandria, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The woman's name is uncertain. Her enslaver, Ann Henderson, died circa 1805. After the death of Ann Henderson, this woman likely moved to Greenwich, Sussex County. A birth certificate for her daughter Dinna was filed in 1807 in Greenwich, Sussex County, by Daniel Williamson, the executor of the estate of Ann Henderson.
Ann Henderson's will, signed in 1802, stipulated that her estate should be sold and proceeds divided among Henderson's heirs. Thus it is likely that this Black woman and her daughter Dinna would be sold by Daniel Williamson sometime after Dinna's birth. - Keywords
