Sussex County Births of Enslaved Children microfilm contains the following record:
Child: Julian
Mother: Name not listed
Enslaver of mother and child: John Boyd
Location: Sussex County (Locality not listed)
Birth date: May 12, 1815
Recorded date: October 1, 1815
Clerk: Johnson
The back of the birth certificate identifies the enslaver as "Revd John Boyd." The Rev. John Boyd pastored two churches in Sussex County: the Yellow Frame Presbyterian Church and the Newton Presbyterian Church. Thus, although the locality is not listed on this birth certificate, we can infer that Julian was likely born at Boyd's homestead which was located in the vicinity of the Yellow Frame Church in the area of present-day Fredon, NJ. - Event Type
