- Biographical Description
- Mary Bainbridge née Taylor was the wife of surgeon Absalom Bainbridge. She resided at the Bainbridge House in Princeton in the 1770s where she and her husband enslaved a Black man named Prime. She allegedly sold Prime to her father John Taylor in 1777, and this sale was among the disputed facts in Prime's legal battle for freedom after the Revolutionary War (Prime eventually gained freedom by an act of the New Jersey legislature in 1786).
