Runaway ad for Sampson (alias Francis), by Oliver Hunt, "Thirty Dollars Reward," Trenton Federalist, April 4, 1808. - Event Description
-
It appears that Sampson (aka Francis) was captured following his escape from enslaver Richard Stockton of Princeton. The exact date and circumstances of the capture event are uncertain.
Sampson originally ran away at the end of September 1806, and a runaway ad for him was still circulating three months later in December 1806. Then, in early April 1808, another runaway ad for Sampson was published by a new enslaver named Oliver Hunt, detailing Sampson's second escape attempt. It can be inferred from these runaway ads that sometime (likely in 1807) Sampson was captured, returned to Princeton, and sold or otherwise transferred from Richard Stockton to Oliver Hunt. - Event Type
