- Biographical Description
- Sampson (alias Francis) was an enslaved Black man who resided near Princeton, New Jersey, in the early 19th century. He was born circa 1776. He made at least two escape attempts. He ran away from enslaver Richard Stockton, owner of the Morven mansion, in 1806. He then ran away from enslaver Oliver Hunt in 1808. Evidently, he was captured after running away from Stockton and was sold or transferred to the Hunt household by 1808, but the precise circumstances of his transfer from Stockton to Hunt are uncertain.
