Runaway ad for Harry, by Lambert DeCamp, "TWENTY DOLLARS REWARD," Centinel of Freedom, August 17, 1802, p. 3. - Event Description
-
Following his escape from enslaver Lambert DeCamp in early January 1802, a Black man named Harry was evidently apprehended and returned to DeCamp's household in the Bridgetown area of Rahway. Exactly when and where Harry was captured is uncertain.
This capture event is inferred from the runaway ads that document two separate escape attempts by Harry in January 1802 and then later in June 1802. See the related freedom seeking events for more details about Harry's escapes. - Event Type
