John Pope was an enslaver who lived in Mansfield, Burlington County, in the late 18th century. He was the executor and legatee of the estate of his mother Mary Pope, who died circa 1783. From his mother's estate he inherited an enslaved Black man named Sip Quon.
John Pope and his brother Nathaniel Pope manumitted several members of the Quon family in 1786. John Pope manumitted Sip Quon, whom he had inherited from his mother's estate, and he also manumitted a young man named Gabriel Quon, while John's brother Nathaniel manumitted a young man named Adam Quon at the same time.
It appears he also served as Justice of the Peace for Burlington County circa 1790. - Keywords
