Somerset County Register of Black Children, Manumissions, and Removals, Book A, Pages 191-192, contain a manumission record for Sarah Green, who was released from slavery on 17 April 1817 in Basking Ridge, Bernards. Sarah Green was manumitted by Robert Finley. The manumission document notes that Sarah Green was the wife of a free man named George Green, and that Robert Finley had recently purchased Sarah from a man named Joseph Annin. The document states that Sarah Green was an adult between 21 and 40 years old, but her exact age was not recorded.
The document was entered into the book by the County Clerk (Samuel Swan) on 1 May 1817. The manumission record was signed by the Overseers of the Poor for the township (Nathan Dalglish and John Jobs) and Justices of the Peace for Somerset County (Edward Lewis and George Anderson). - Event Type
