Event Description
Somerset County birth records of enslaved children contain the following record:

Book B, Page 92
Child: Arch
Mother: Jenney
Father: Tom
Enslaver of mother and child: John Frelinghuysen
Location: not listed
Birth date: 28 January 1812
Reported date: 15 May 1828
Clerk: Isaac Southard

The birth record did not list a locality; however, other historical sources indicate that John Frelinghuysen was living at the historic property known as the General John Frelinghuysen House at the time of this event, and it can be presumed that the child was born there. The house is located in the present-day Raritan borough (then part of Bridgewater township).

The same birth registration record also mentioned Arch's siblings Rachel, Jane, and George.
