- Description
-
Washington Township, Burlington County, is located in the southern part of the county. It was incorporated in 1802, formed from portions of Evesham, Little Egg Harbor, and Northampton townships.
The township was originally larger than it is today. During the second half of the 19th century, parts of Washington Township broke off to form the neighboring Shamong, Bass River, and Woodland townships.
Note that there are multiple other places called Washington Township in New Jersey, and care must be taken not to confuse them. Bergen County, Gloucester County, Morris County, and Warren County all have a township of this name. Additionally, there used to be a Washington Township in Mercer County, which was renamed Robbinsville in 2008. - Locality
