- Description
-
New Hanover is a township in the northeast section of Burlington County. It was formed in 1723 from portions of Chesterfield and Springfield townships and was originally about three times larger than it is today. In 1846, a portion of New Hanover was taken to form Pemberton. In the early 20th century, parts of the township were taken to form North Hanover and Wrightstown.
Although the official name of the township was always New Hanover, some colonial-era documents from this area simply list "Hanover" as the place. - Locality
