- Description
-
Rahway is a city in Union County, New Jersey. Rahway was originally incorporated in Essex County in 1804. It became part of Union County when that county split from Essex in 1857. In the early 19th century, a substantial portion of present-day Rahway was in Middlesex County, in the township of Woodbridge. That section of Rahway was transferred to Union County in 1860.
Due to this history of shifting city and county boundaries, documents related to slavery in the Rahway area may be found among Essex County and Middlesex County records. - Locality
